Knowing God Perhaps knowing God’s not anything that’s been on your horizon – at least not lately. It’s astonishing how little effort is put into knowing the creator of the universe, the keeper of the stars, the One who has provided an escape from the suffering brought by sin in our lives and the lives of those around us. Did you know God wants to show you more of Himself every day? He gave us His Son Jesus, the Messiah or Christ – the Anointed One for that reason – to open the doors to heaven and bring us into relationship with God – to know God! God gives us good things not as ends in themselves but so that we will see His generosity and be moved to worship and serve Him. Does your time with the Lord encourage you? Do you open His Word, the Bible to discover you’re revitalized, strengthened, prepared and blessed? Have you recognized your Saviour in Jesus, realized His presence through His Holy Spirit in your heart, and found your direction in service to God?

We may come to know God, or think we do, in particular, comfortable ways – results of our culture, our upbringing, our traditions – and expect this is just the way it is. While God is unchanging – He’s the same yesterday, today and forever – we will also learn to know God in new and different ways if we let Him into relationship with us following His sovereignty and permissive will.

Do you know God in your life when after 20 years with the same company you’re “downsized”, or the doctor tells you, as gently as possible, you’ve a rare form of cancer but you don’t “feel” sick. It’s when you’re forced to go through difficult times you didn’t see coming that you begin to know God is there. At the heart of the matter, I believe we can and must know God on a more intimate level – as a loving Father, as healer, redeemer, as the author of peace, joy and strength. "At times God will appear like an unkind friend, but He is not; He will appear like an unnatural father, but He is not; He will appear like an unjust judge, but He is not." - My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers
